BLOG ARTICLE ON THE INTRODUCTION TO FILM AND VIDEO

During this month, we learned the basic knowledge and tools required to make great contents. Starting with the first week where we studied that Character evolution is effectively the roughly equivalent to a character arc. It’s the central journey a character takes on over the progression of the story, with a substantial transformation or progression as the final outcome. Maybe the character has a moral to realize, past trauma to move past or a fatal flaw that holds him back. That’s where the story comes in. The story is your venture to aid the character in changing into who the character needs to be for better or worse. We work on the theory of character evolution, and discussed on the levels of character at the end of

stories, about how the stories shows this transformation as an act or action. Below are some of my personal

remarks.

In APRICOT - short film by Ben Briand

Written & Directed by Ben Briand, we are introduced to our main protagonist, Basil Hogios, the story material between that first and last scene is presented as extended flashback and told in chronological order; we see a series of questions and answers in a form of a flashback telling the story of their childhood.

As MinesAGuinness said in a comment, it make you feel like you just watched the climactic scene of a much longer film or television series, where they have been searching for meaning and each other ever since childhood.

In the Flashback, her explaining her first love story makes him remember. Once he started writing, and asked her about her first kiss, she hesitated and ask him if he is taking note. she got defensive and wanted leave, that is when he finally told her that he have problems remembering.

The film ends with a kiss, as she remembered him, while at first, same here, I wasn't sure it could be the same person as he seemed to have aged more than she had, when he smiled at the end his boyish youth was perfectly expressed. Great short romantic film that have gave me hints on how to tell my own childhood romantic love story in the future.

In SPIDER -- Short film written by Nash Edgerton & David Michôd. Directed by Nash Edgerton.

This short film is based on two characters called Jack and Jill played by Nash Edgerton and Mirrah Foulkes, the camera work is effective, especially because the camera work was all hand filmed so it bad the scenes very edgy. how they started was really effected with the quote from the mom, as even before you start viewing the video it has already got you thinking. The quote Jill uses, Always Jack, you go too far has a major role in the film. As there is not much speech throughout the whole of the play the small parts which does have vocals have been scripted cleverly. Like the quote I just mentioned, it gives the audience one message at the time when it was said, which would be things like he’s a joker, he likes to mess around and he has always been like this, but at the end this quote would be interpreted differently. This would be because you would of thought, especially as him and his girlfriend isn’t talking, that he would have listened to her advice. It makes you feel or think that he could of prevented the accident as he was warned and also that he is a childish idiot. The accident that happened was very realistic and pulls on your heartstrings every time you watch it.  well shot and edited as to make it pull on your heartstrings and make it feel realistic is very difficult. The way she bends like it actually hit her was effected and the sound effects was great.

The ending of the story is sort of lost the plot and it was unnecessary when he gets stabbed in his eye. This is as something major has literally just happened and then they are trying to repeat make another event again. It does show the laws of nature but it would been better if it ended with her getting the medical help on in the road. Recommending this short film to my colleges and people my age group as an audience or any audience to think and want to change their behaviors and to be more cautious with some of the jokes and pranks that we do and see happening everyday. We can see that the message that was being portrayed was just that some jokes can be taken too far and can cause serious damages like loosing a life or an eye. Great life lesson.
